Dear Parents,
I want to be sure you are aware of some significant changes to interdistrict transfer options for the 2019-2020 school year. These changes will impact and eliminate Open Enrollment transfer requests. Open Enrollment, enacted by the Oregon Legislature in 2011, created an additional enrollment option for students wishing to transfer between districts. The open enrollment statute contains a sunset provision, effective July 1, 2019. What this means for districts and students:
There will be slots opened up in the Banks School District during the inter-district window, which will be in May. However, it is important to remember that students get the transfer approved by their resident district prior to submitting paperwork to Banks School District. More to come as the Board of Directors will set Inter-District numbers during the April board meeting. Sincerely, Jeff Leo Superintendent Banks School District Parents and Students of Banks School District,
The District would like to announce that we are adding two student contact days at the end of the 2018-19 school year and have revised our calendar accordingly. This is a result of snow days and the District and Staff working together to add student contact time to the school year. The additional days will be on June 13-June 14, 2019. June 13th will be a full day and June 14th will be a half day. Previously, the last student day was June 12. Thank you for your attention to this. - Banks School District The purpose of the Banks School District Wellness Committee is to make student and staff
wellness a priority in the District. Check out our goals for the 2019-2020 school year and look for our newsletters and social media posts throughout the year. The first meeting of the Facilities Planning Committee will be October 9, 2018 at 6:00 PM in the District Board Room. The public is welcome to attend. There will be two additional meetings: November 13 and December 10.
Banks School District will have two positions on the ballot in the May 21, 2019 election for the Banks School District School Board of Directors. The elections will be for Positions #3 and #5. These are 4 year terms.
Forms and instructions may be found the Washington County election website: www.co.washington.or.us/elections/forms. Recently, using funds from a grant obtained from the Oregon Department of Education, Banks School District recently had DLR Associates conduct a thorough long-range assessment of the structures in the Banks School District. The assessment is designed to evaluate each of the buildings and the current state of each building. This long-range assessment process will lead to a formation of a long-range facilities committee that will be formed in the month of September. This committee will have the responsibility of planning a long-range vision of the facilities in the District. This is not necessarily planning for a specific building, but the overall vision of the District moving forward as it relates to academics and extra-currilcuar activities. This also has the potential to lead to a bond proposal for the Banks School District.
Please look for applications that will be posted on the website soon, if you would like to apply to be part of the committee. The committee will consist of parents, community members, and District staff members. The time commitment will be three meetings in October, November, and December. If you have any questions, please call me at 503-324-8591. Thanks, Jeff Leo Superintendent Banks School District This summer meals at no charge are available to all children and teens 1-18 years olds.
